Food Prep & Service

Flagstaff Family Food Center

Food Prep & Service Start the day by making a real difference! During Food Prep & Service, volunteers help prepare nutritious lunches and support our kitchen’s daily operations. Tasks include making peanut butter & jelly or meat and cheese sandwiches, packing lunches for our sandwich delivery shift, and assisting with meal prep—such as chopping fresh vegetables and fruit for later meals. This event is a hands-on, team-based experience ideal for anyone who enjoys working in a kitchen and wants to help provide healthy food to our community. Whether you’re a sandwich expert or a first-time volunteer, your help ensures that children, families, and individuals across Flagstaff receive the nourishment they need. Join us in the morning, roll up your sleeves, and help us serve hope—one meal at a time!

Safety Information for Food Prep & Service To ensure the well-being of our guests, volunteers, and staff, please follow these safety guidelines during your shift: • Wash hands thoroughly before starting, after handling any food, and after breaks. • Wear gloves when preparing sandwiches and handling ready-to-eat items. Change gloves regularly, especially after handling allergens. • Wear closed-toe, non-slip shoes and keep long hair tied back or under a hat. • Follow food safety protocols: Keep work surfaces clean, separate raw and ready-to-eat foods, and sanitize equipment and surfaces regularly. • Handle knives and kitchen equipment carefully—use only what you have been trained to use. • Keep the kitchen tidy: Clean as you go and wipe up any spills immediately. • Stay home if you are unwell or have any open cuts or wounds on your hands. • Be aware of allergies: Many sandwiches contain peanut butter, nuts, dairy, or other allergens. Always follow posted procedures to avoid cross-contact, and never substitute ingredients unless directed by a supervisor. • Inform a supervisor immediately if you have an allergy, notice a spill, injury, or unsafe condition. Your attention to these guidelines helps us keep everyone safe and healthy. Thank you for supporting our mission with care and responsibility!

24-Hour Cancellation Policy Reminder To help us serve our community efficiently, please remember our 24-hour cancellation policy for all volunteer shifts: • If you need to cancel a scheduled shift, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance. • You can cancel by logging into your volunteer account, emailing, or calling our office. • Last-minute cancellations make it challenging to fill your spot and can impact our ability to serve those in need. • If you have an emergency or sudden illness, let us know as soon as possible—your health comes first. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us keep our programs running smoothly!
